1. The artist and name of the first artwork is unknown, but we chose this picture because it represents the overarching theme of the loneliness that the monster inquires. Throughout the novel, the monster is fighting an internal battle of loneliness, and he is spending his time trying to convince Frankenstein to make another monster. Even though Frankenstein agreed to make a monster, he didn't follow through with what he told the monster, which made the monster feel even more lonely and angrier. The monster's loneliness leads to his actions and killings throughout the novel. In this picture the only person in it is black, which symbolizes his loneliness and darkness within him. He is surrounded by a little bit of light, which we concluded was the knowledge and hope that the monster held for his future. The lightness is then surrounded by more darkness, which symbolizes that beyond the monster's knowledge, there is nothing more to him, and his future is very limited due to lack of being with others.
2. The second piece of artwork also has an unknown title and unknown artist, but it is a commonly used to symbol for a pirate flag. We chose this piece of artwork because we thought that it represented the multiple deaths that occurred in the novel by the monster. We also thought it represented the revenge that the monster was wanting by killing people. Even though the monster lacked a connection with the world around him, his revenge to get back at Victor provided with him his only connection to the real world. Also, similar to a pirate's familiar act of lying and deceiving people, Victor lied to his family and friends about the monster, failing to tell them about him making it. This secrecy eats away at Victor, ultimately becoming an underlaying factor for his death.
3. The third piece of artwork is also unknown, but it is used to represent the symbol of family and a theme of togetherness. The monster always longs throughout the book to be with a family and feel loved, or to have someone of his own to spend time with and be happy. He watches a poor family for many months, while seeing them struggle, but they are also happy because they have each other. When he tries to be friends with the family but ,they get scared and upset and kick him out immediately. He realizes then that he wants a family, but one with someone of his own kind that will appreciate him. He ask Victor to make a girl for him, so he will happy and never disturb anyone again. Victor does not make the monster a girl, which frustrates the monster even more since it's Victor fault that he is not happy with the life Victor has given him.
